Charter member of Antioch Methodist Church in Antioch, TN.
Was appointed "overseer" to Dr. John Shelby's vast land holdings in East Nashville upon his arrival in America.
In May 1936, on his first trip to America, George and his wife, Fanny Lockhart arrived onboard the ship "St. James" in the New York city harbor.
After returning back to England (after the death of his first wife Fanny Lockhart), George, his daughter Hannah and his second wife and childhood sweetheart Fanny Rogers arrived in Philadelphia, PA aboard the "North Star" on June 23, 1847.
For 27 years, George Richards was the superintendent of Farms at the Insane Asylum (or called the Central State Hospital). His son George Christopher was Assistant Engineer and William Robert, another son, was an attendant.

Lived across the street on Murfreesboro Rd. from Central State Hospital, where he worked. He was a Deacon and active worker in Una Antioch Baptist Church.
